Pop? Soda? Coke?

Time posted a map of what regions call their carbonated beverages.

The study was done by an Ohio State University graduate, Brice Russ. He used Twitter to analyze the data based on tweets from identified places. He presented the data at the American Dialect Society’s annual meeting in January. Russ wanted to show that using Twitter can be used for valuable information and mapping out regional dialects.

The map shows Ohio as mostly yellow dots indicating “pop” but there are some blue dots for “soda” and some red dots for “Coke.”
