I see so many sad stories throughout the day, and for whatever reason, this one stuck with me. Sharing this with you may be a way to show you whatever you’re dealing with, you’re not alone. Maybe it will help you get over a silly argument, or make you appreciate things a little bit more. If you’re healthy and your family is healthy that is the best gift anyone could have. Unfortunately, that is not the case for many others.
Deanna was diagnosed with cancer on October 11, 2016. She will be turning 26 years old this November 11. Here is more of her story:
It has been so difficult to accept that Deanna has been unknowingly fighting this when only a month ago we all shared in her joy as she married the love of her life, Sonny Pisano. Cancer is never easy to accept, but it is exceptionally hard to imagine for those of us who know what a kind, giving, and radiant person Deanna is. She has already amazed us with her strength and positive spirit as we begin to fight this together. Please keep the positive thoughts and prayer coming her way, and use this site as one way to support her.
As of Oct. 18, Deanna is recovering from surgery as well as can be expected. Her diagnosis showed one colon tumor and three liver tumors, and we are relieved to share that the largest tumor was removed on Monday, Oct. 17. Doctors removed the majority of her colon to prevent possible new cancerous cells from growing, and in the future her doctors plan to treat her liver tumors through chemotherapy and embolization to shrink and eventually remove the cancerous portions. Deanna will recover in the hospital this week, and will begin chemotherapy in about a month. While she will have many obstacles to overcome in the near future, we are hopeful. Deanna is surrounded with people who love her beyond words and we are all rallying to support her in every way possible.
Deanna’s career led her to become a nanny for Cleveland Clinic Dr. Sricharan Chalikonda, who is now overseeing her care and advocating for her every step of the way. We are blessed beyond words that his specialty is Surgical Oncology at Cleveland Clinic’s main campus. Sri has been incredibly supportive and helpful, bringing in the best surgeons and observing all procedures. His wife Stephanie is also partnering with Sri to support Deanna; she is a nurse anesthetist at Cleveland Clinic. Stephanie has taken time off and has now recruited family members to care for their children. They consider Deanna a part of their family. We are comforted to know that she is in the best hands possible.
